Someone pointed on another forum that the 5X points can be used to exchange Asia Miles.The basic non-Premiermiles Citibank exchange rate is $15/mile,so the effective exchange rate is $3/mile.$50 fee is payable on every 5,000 Asia Miles exchanged.

But taking up this card means foregoing the Premiemiles welcome gift that can be earned every two years (apply and hold in the first year,cut and 過冷河in the second year;repeat).

My supermarket and dept store spending is roughly $13.7K a year.The improvement for using this card over DBS Black (the next best card for supermarket and dept store)is around 2,280 miles per year.This is less than the welcome gift (even if spread out over two years)so I'll forgo this Rewards card in the absence of a welcome offer.

like i hv a octopus card...it is automatcially upgraded?how do i select the asia miles instead of the cash rebate?

Octopus Citibank and Citi Rewards are two separate products.

You earn points with Citi Rewards instead of cash rebate like Octopus Citibank.$1 normal spending =1 point.If you gather 25,000 points you can redeem a $100 Wellcome coupon (I don't think Citibank offers Park'N'Shop coupons...).If you gather 75,000 points and pay $50,you can redeem 5,000 Asia Miles.

These offers are only average or even slightly below average for HK banks.The part where Citi Rewards stands out is its 5X normal points offer for spending in supermarkets and dept stores.That is,$1 spending =5 points.
