讀者Alice來電郵問,fond of與like有何分別?Long for與wish又有何分別?
(1)fond of即feel affection for,指「鍾情」或「喜歡」,例如:
They were fond of each other when they got married.
Do you like fruit?
(3)fond of (doing)something則常表示對某事物長時期喜愛(like for a long time),例如:
He is fond of all the romantics and especially devoted to Rachmaninoff.
(4)fond of (doing)something亦常表示染有不良習慣(have some bad habit),例如:
He is fond of going out in the evening for pleasure.
(5)long for即want something very much especially if it does not seem likely to happen soon,指「渴望」或「切盼」,尤指不會馬上得到的東西,例如:
People all over the world long for peace.
I wish to go to London.
